Google Scholar: direct link, access & practical guide

Personal

What is Google Scholar?

Scholar searches scholarly literature and helps you follow research through citations and related works. It can surface publisher pages, repositories, and different versions of a paper. Discovering a paper does not necessarily include access to its full text.

Open the right destination

Open Google Scholar ↗

You can use the public entry point without an account for basic browsing or the available public tool. Sign in when you need account-based features or when the selected action asks for it.

Before you start

Your first useful task

  1. Search for a title, author, or research topic.
  2. Narrow the period when recency matters and inspect relevant papers.
  3. Use available full-text links or your library’s access route to read the work.

A practical way to use Google Scholar

Follow a promising paper’s references and citing work to understand the conversation around it. Save the exact title and publication details, then check any exported citation against the original paper before submitting a bibliography.

Troubleshooting

The result leads to a paywall.

Check other listed versions and your institution’s library access. Scholar indexes material from sources with different access arrangements.

Common questions

Does having a Google account unlock all papers?

No. Access depends on the publisher, repository, and any institutional subscription. A Google sign-in does not replace those arrangements.

Do I have to sign in first?

Public access and account features are different. Start with the Open button; if your chosen action needs an account, the destination will prompt you there.

Do I need an account with The Login Link?

No. This directory does not require registration. The Open button takes you to the service; any account credentials are entered there.
